Re-Examining Boundaries: When to Step Forward or Back
Thursday, September 12, 2024, 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM EDT
Category: Workshop

(90-minute webinar – available live or on-demand)
Thursday, September 12, 2024
3:00 - 4:30 PM Eastern

Burnout is a serious issue for the individual and the team as a whole. Knowing how to recognize, approach, mitigate, and reverse it are critical skills for managers and fellow team members. Instead of concentrating only on someone’s challenging or difficult behavior, you can learn how to manage boundaries and know when and how to step in.

AFTER THIS WEBINAR YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:

  • Examine trends in recent research related to establishing and maintaining professional boundaries
  • Differentiate between “occupational burnout” and “empathy fatigue”
  • List three specific criteria for overload burnout, neglect burnout, under-challenged burnout
  • Understand the connection between burnout and moral distress
  • Describe how/why common notions of self-care are generally not effective with burnout and compassion fatigue
  • Exhibit two approaches to determine "when to take a step forward, when to stand still, and when to step back” in challenging situations

WEBINAR DETAILS:  So often a team member might be described as “difficult,” “ineffective,” or problematic” when in fact they are experiencing some form of burnout. End-of-life care requires specific skill sets for all team members and just because someone has a license or experience in a related field does not mean they will feel comfortable or adequate working in hospice or palliative care. Feelings of inadequacy can quickly lead to a dynamic called “learned helplessness” and/or a sense of burnout – which in turn can lead to problematic behaviors. It is imperative for managers and team members to have a thorough understanding of burnout and empathy fatigue and the knowledge and skills necessary to turn it around.

THIS WEBINAR WILL BENEFIT THE FOLLOWING AGENCIES: Hospice, Palliative Care
