3:00 -4:15 PM Eastern

How do you decide if a hospice patient is capable of deciding for themselves? Determining decisional capacity can be a sticky predicament. This timely webinar will provide the guidance and food for thought that should be carefully considered to ensure each patient’s autonomy, dignity, and right to choose are safeguarded.

AFTER THIS WEBINAR YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:

  • Define the elements of decisional capacity
  • Identify the circumstances where a determination of capacity is needed
  • Discern the appropriate decisionmaker
  • Develop an organizational process for determining decisional capacity
  • Assist in identifying the capacity required for decisions
  • Use the Aid to Capacity Evaluation (ACE) tool

WEBINAR DETAILS: Most hospice patients are either lacking in decisional capacity upon admission or will reach that point during their care experience. How does this impact the patient’s informed consent? Who does the IDG turn to for decisions on the patient’s behalf? What do you do if you’re unsure about a patient’s capacity? All of these are critical questions to ask to protect the patient’s autonomy, dignity, and right to choose. Ensure your organization has the information and expertise needed to navigate these murky waters and make certain the best interests of patients and families are served.

THIS WEBINAR WILL BENEFIT THE FOLLOWING AGENCIES: Hospice

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? This informative session is relevant for all members of the IDG since decisional capacity is something that can change over the course of a patient’s care experience and everyone on the team needs to be aware of and collaborate on these changes.
