Assisting People to Live Fully Until Death: Beyond Pain & Symptom Management
Thursday, March 16, 2023, 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM EDT
Category: Workshop

Go beyond pain and symptom management to ensure people can create and experience a unique, meaningful death. This webinar will focus on using a holistic spiritual-biopsychosocial approach to care. View the person in totality to address pain and suffering beginning at admission and work with the IDT to continually provide meaningful, appropriate intervention.

WEBINAR DETAILS

Take a moment to focus on key care concepts such as the spiritual-biopsychosocial model of care, the patient/family as the plan-of-care driver, and fully informed care. How prepared are patients and families for the time of death? How prepared is the IDT? Do you know how to skillfully utilize “meaning making” interventions to enable people to design their best possible end-of-life experience? Learn the answer to those questions and so much more. This webinar will focus on identifying and addressing suffering at admission, and on how to create end-of-life experiences driven by the meaning that patients and families give to this universally important life event we all face and share.

AFTER THIS WEBINAR YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:

  • Explain specific dynamics that interfere with providing a comprehensive spiritual-biopsychosocial approach to care
  • Understand the importance of utilizing pain and suffering concepts to initiate an immediate IDT response
  • Distinguish between problem- and opportunity-focused approaches to care
  • Use both the suffering and acuity scales to determine how/when to respond
  • List three approaches that enable people to have the best possible end-of-life experience, including the creation of a specific, meaningful time-of-death plan
